What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest therapies known to humanity and has been in use for well over two thousand years. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, stimulating specific acupuncture points on the body corrects imbalances in the flow of “Qi”, through channels known as meridians and can be used to treat many illnesses, as laid down by the World Heath Organisation (WHO). It is particularly useful in treating patients for whom all western medical test results are normal but who still remain unwell. A Chinese Medicine diagnosis is based on an intricate evaluation of each individual patient.

What is involved in an Acupuncture Treatment?

At the first consultation a detailed medical history is taken and patients are encouraged to divulge as much of their medical history as possible. This includes discussing all symptoms and any medications they are taking. The tongue and pulse are assessed, a diagnosis based on Chinese Medicine principles is made and a treatment plan is put in place. Complete confidentiality is assured at all times.

How does it work?

An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of extremely fine, pre-sterilised, single use needles into predetermined points on the body’s surface to restore health. It can be used alone or combined with the use of other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine including: Moxibustion, Electo-Stimulation, Cupping as well as Dietary and Lifestyle advice.

Is it safe?

As all acupuncture needles are pre-sterilised, single use, disposable needles, there is no risk that infection can be transmitted. Acupuncture is completely safe and free of any harmful side effects when administered by a fully qualified practitioner.
